Welcome to Arahuka Association-AAMEGA
Arahũka (AAMEGA) Association, which hereafter is referred to as Arahũka, is a community based organization representing the Kenyan people from around Mount Kenya.
The community’s legendary belief is that Ngai (God) created Gĩkũyũ and his only wife Mũũmbi and brought them down from the top of Mount Kenya (Kĩrĩnyaga) and settled them in a place called Mũkũrwe wa Nyagathanga in Mũrang’a District of Central Kenya.
The legend goes that Ngai commanded the couple to procreate and gave them ten daughters referred to among the Agĩkũyũ people as Kenda Mũiyũru by which all the Agĩkũyũ derive their clan names. The names of the ten daughters were Waceera (Njeri), Wairimũ, Wanjikũ, Wangũi, Wamũyũ, Wanjirũ, Waithĩra, Wambũi, Nyambura and Wangarĩ.
The legend proceeds to say that when the daughters were of marriageable age, Ngai provided them young suitors (Anake a Ndũrĩrĩ) who married each of the ten beautiful daughters. This is one of the reasons why the Agĩkũyũ community has no restrictions for inter-ethnic marriages with other communities. The belief and trust in Ngai gives the community the faith and courage to migrate to new places up to this day.
Our Vision is to foster and promote a united Community in Diaspora and at Home that is supportive and cohesive, prosperous and economically empowered, holistically educated, modern and happy.
